Brushing and flossing should be done at home on a regular basis. A general rule of thumb is to brush twice a day and floss once a day.
Professional Oral Cleaning
We strongly believe in prevention and catching problems before they start causing pain and discomfort. At your cleaning appointment, our certified dental hygienists will clean any buildup like plaque and tartar off your teeth. They will also floss, polish your teeth and educate you on how to best take care of your teeth at home.
Oral cancer screen may be the best way to detect oral cancer early, and our dental hygienist play an important role in early detection. Our hygienist will perform a thorough visual examination of your mouth in order to identify any abnormalities. This routine examination is part of your regular hygiene appointment.
Over time stains and hard deposits form on the teeth even with good oral hygiene at home. Different people are at different risk levels for plaque and tartar accumulation. Dental hygienists are trained to remove plaque and tart in the most gentle and effective way possible. Cleaning appointments are also good opportunities to review your health and answer any questions you might have.
Brush for two minutes every time and use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Don't brush too aggressively which can harm gum and tooth enamel. Brush at least twice a day will help you from getting cavities and gum disease.
If you use the right technique, the type of toothbrush is not important. The basic, soft-bristled toothbrush will work well enough. Whichever kind of toothbrush you use, replace the brush every 3-4 months because toothbrushes can harbor bacteria. Also, they won’t clean teeth effectively when the bristles are frayed or bent overtime.
Bad breath is often caused by odor-causing bacteria in your mouth. The bacteria can be found on teeth, in gum tissue, and in tongue cervices. Brushing, flossing and cleaning your tongue will help get rid of those bacteria. Mouthwash can also help remove bacteria. Tongue scrapers can work better than toothbrush in removing bacteria from the tongue. If there are other causes of the bad mouth, then it needs to be further investigated.
Yes, try to floss at least Once a day. Flossing will remove food particles and bacteria between teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach. Flossing will reduced the risk of getting cavities and gum inflammation.

I took my Mom to see Dr. Ma for an emergency exam because she had a really bad tooth. Not only was he able to fit us in the same day, he also treated my mom right away. I was amazed at how professional and quick he was able to relieve my mom of her pain and she didn't feel any discomfort during the treatment. I highly recommended this office!

I saw Dr. Ma for a second opinion. My previous dentist gave me a long treatment plan which left me overwhelmed and confused. Dr. Ma was great at explaining everything and gave me different options with their pros and cons. He actually recommended a more conservative approach and it fixed all my issues. A very competent and honest dentist!

I would recommend Gentle Dental to anyone! Dr. Ma is fantastic as are the other staff at this office. Today I had a tooth that I have been self-conscious about for over ten years fixed and I could not be happier with the results or the process. Regular cleaning appointments are also a breeze at this office - easy to schedule and I have never experienced any long wait-times beforehand.
